SALUS RT310 Thermostat Review

Not keeping up with the latest technology compared to the RT310i, and not to be confused with the RT300RF, the Salus RT310 is another one in a now very long line of thermostats that is hard wired. With the RT310, you can run your heating system in the more traditional method, not remotely by switching it on or off from the dedicated App on your Android or Apple IOS Smartphone device. However, both models allow you to easily control and adjust the heating temperature locally on the thermostat.

Salus RT310_wired

The RT310 is a well-made, advanced thermostat with an LCD screen and an almost technophobe proof interface. The thermostat enables the user to control the heating level. For some users the SALUS RT310 thermostat may be a bit primative. But at least the user won't be met with some of the problems that can arise with the more advanced model.

The dedicated RT310i App has been known on occasion to not function properly. In some cases, it may fail to make the connection. There may be pairing issues between the programmer and the Internet receiver. Disconnects can be common if you’re unfortunate enough to be plagued by this problem.

But there are some issues with the RT310, too. Main one being temperature inaccuracy. Second issue being an overall faulty unit that just failed to work. There are also some complaints relating to poor technical assistance from the manufacturer. But overall it can potentially be a fairly solid system, as there are some people who love using it and have never had any problems at all.

The SALUS RT310 is a suitable choice if you are searching for a cost effective room thermostat that is very easy to operate. You can easily install the programmer on the wall or counter in your home and manage the heating setting manually on the device. The SALUS RT310 thermostat, while not without some bad reviews, is a fairy efficient unit. Well worth a look if you’re looking for a cheap way to control heating.

The best price for this model can be found at the link above.

Of course, you may be able to find cheaper if you are willing to a buy a used ST9400C. However, I would recommend buying a brand new model. This way you can take advantage of the 3-year guarantee that it comes with. If you buy used it may be older than the guarantee time, so if something does happen to go wrong with it. Such as, it won't turn on, blank screen (display not working, problems with the temperature / on - off settings not being accurate etc), you may have to buy another programmer.

Siemens RWB2007 / RW200 Programmers

These two programmers are infinitely linked. They are both capable of replacing each other. The RWB2007 And The Landis & Gyr RWB200 are very good programmers. Great reliability. But most home owners are trying to replace the Landis & Gyr RWB200 with the Siemens RWB2007, not so much the other way round.

Horstmann 425 Tiara Dial

The Horstmann 425 Tiara Programmer is as basic as they come, with no digital screen and few buttons. But just because it looks like an old-fashioned timer doesn't mean it's not up to the task. This is a straightforward but highly effective programmer. It's the closest thing to a virtually perfectly easy-to-use system you'll find anywhere.

Many individuals acquire this model to replace an earlier Horstmann programmer for a variety of reasons, the most common of which is that they don't want or need all of the mod cons that the more complex programmers have to offer. This model is a straight replacement for Horstmann's earlier 425, as well as other Horstmann models.

Nights as well as days are actually pre-set / programmed, along with automated summertime/winter season modification. The factory-set programs fits almost most homes needs. For people familiar with using programmers, the ESI ES3247B is extremely simple to adjust and easy to program.

Pre-sets make this unit chug along on its own nicely, with little to no commands needed from the user. Except to tailor to own requirements of course. The bright back-light display could be changed completely on or even off, depending upon the user's choice.

When the rear illumination is actually off, it could be lit up at the press of a switch as well as shut off once again. The programmer could be set up for 24 hr, 5/2 time or even the full 7 days, along with the versatility of as much as 3 on/off timings each day. There are a few complaints about the screen. Overall a great programmer / timer with mostly positive reviews.

Potential Problems

Some users claim the screen is very hard to read, while others are annoyed at the fact that a button needs to be pressed for the screen to be illuminated and read. There's also a few reports of users sayings its quite hard to use.

Compatibility

Can control multiple thermostats and works with oil fired boilers (and also many others, including older models), and is compatible with the standard Boss backplate.

Honeywell CM51 Straight Swap

The Honeywell CM51, a very good 7-day thermostat, if a little outdated in 2021. There are quite a few decent replacements for this model. However, one that is more recommended than most, is the Honeywell 707. It can handle up to 4 on / off cycles per day, an easy to read LCD display, and has many other features, such as holiday mode, day replicator (copy) auto and manual options. The 707 has become somewhat hard to find for sale in the UK (regularly sold out), but it is available to buy at the following link: Buy the Honeywell CM707.

Honeywell CM51 Replacement: The Honeywell CM707

Great programmer with excellent reviews from customers. Alternatively you can also replace the CM51 with the Honeywell Home T3C110AEU T3 Wired programmer if you want a more updated model. But out of the two, I would go with the CM707. Although it must be said, it's not the cheapest compatible model to purchase. Came here looking for the CM51 PDF instruction manual? You can read / download that by clicking here.

Draining Central Heating UK

A fully pumped central heating system can be drained to enable work to be carried out. fitting a temperature radiator valve or swapping a faulty radiator are common instances. Usually, this will be done by a professional, however, it is a job that can be completed by a competent DIYer can perform who has some understanding of heating systems. If not, for any DIY enthusiasts that wants to give it a go and save some money, these days there are many guides online, in video and text format that can help complete these types of jobs without too much difficulty.

In most cases a thourough cleaning of the central heating is performed to clean the steel radiators. In advance of doing anything to the actual steel radiator itself you should turn off the central heating boiler and also any gas or electric that feeds the heating boiler. To be sure the system is totally clear you will need to be certain that no water is going into the central heating system.

Ball Valves

Your gas central heating system is filled up with water that comes from the tank. A widely used ball valve is put to use in the expansion cistern resembling the one used in many toilet systems.

How It Works

Once the water reaches it's highest level the ball floats on the top and closes the valve. As the water level drops, from something like cleaning, the ball falls lower in the tank venting the valve and letting more water to go into the gas central heating system.

Precautions

Water should not be permitted to go into the gas heating system if the clearing procedure is to finish fully. To stop any further water going in the the valve needs to be disabled / turned off.

Drain It Out

As soon as you have completed the above set up a pipeline from an outside empty to the outlet that is situated at the lower end of one of your steel radiators. The water from your heating radiator will stream through the pipeline and out of your steel radiator.

No Water

Of course, if you want to empty the complete gas heating system you will need to attach the hose to one of the level metal radiators. You now need to be thorough and make double sure that all the water has been drained out and that practically zero water is getting into the system before any other servicing is taken out on the gas heating system.

If you need to complete this procedure quickly you can also open the bleed valves on the heating radiators on the higher floors of a residence. When the water is drained out you are free to repeat the exercise on the rest of your steel radiators.
